Reconstruction of high colored and low turbidity water treatment facilities
Summary
By the example of Severodvinsk municipal water treatment facilities the specific features of the upgrade and partial retechnologisation of the high colored and low turbidity water treatment process are considered. The measures were aiming at meeting the regulatory requirements and minimizing the water treatment cost. Such processing technologies as sludge recycling in combination with the use of flocculant, upgrading the mixing and flocculation chambers with the use of mechanical mixers, automation of dosing equipment with continuous instrument control provide for the sustainable and efficient operation of the water treatment facilities. The implemented water treatment technology including the use of coagulant and organic flocculant as well as coagulation in contact with sludge separated from the settling tanks and subsequent filtration in sand-dolomitic bed filters allows producing drinking water that meets the current standards.

Advanced methods of designing biological treatment facilities
Summary
The data of the analytical reviews and practical results of calculating and designing advanced wastewater treatment facilities are presented. The analysis of the methods of designing biological wastewater treatment facilities (construction rules and regulations SNiP, ATV) and the software for mathematical simulation of the facilities operation («EcoSim», GPS-X etc.) is made together with the hydrodynamic continuum mechanics software as applied to calculating the flow conditions at the treatment facilities. The mathematical model of biological wastewater treatment process is based on the analysis of the relationships of enzyme kinetics of the wastewater pollutant transformation and makes a connection between the parameters of the raw waste and effluent, dissolved oxygen concentration and activated sludge. The principles of designing and calculating the facilities for biological treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater including the use of nitri-denitrification and biological phosphorus removal processes have been developed. The practical experience of using the mentioned methods in front end and design works.

Commissioning – the key stage of putting treatment facilities into operation
Summary
The issues related to the commissioning of the equipment and wastewater treatment facilities are considered. A brief review of the history of commissioning the facilities in the Soviet Union and in present day Russia is given. The problem areas of adjusting every equipment assembly, the algorithm of work performance and the required results are shown. The attainment of sustainable performance is provided by quality and skilled commissioning. Correct visual evaluation of the equipment state carried out during the acceptance for commissioning procedure is very important. Nonobserved defects and faults in the process line will cause fast assembly fail which can result in an accident. The principles of «My Project» Company activities related to commissioning are presented. Special attention is paid to adjusting biological treatment in aeration tanks: from the front end engineering to the routine maintenance of the assembly.

The cost of the life cycle as a criterion of choosing a filtration package for membrane bioreactors
Summary
The method of evaluating the cost of the life cycle of the filtration package of membrane bioreactors for biological wastewater treatment is presented. The key parameters of choosing MBR-technology, the example of calculating the cost of the equipment life cycle are given. The allocation of the guarantee commitments between the customer and the supplier is shown. The presented method of evaluating the attraction of using membrane bioreactors on the basis of the analysis of the life cycle of the filtration package provides for the accurate computation of the capital and operational expenditures of the membrane filtration units at the wastewater treatment facilities of various capacities to justify the choice of the filtration package supplier. The conditions for the optimal allocation of risks between the membrane manufacturer and the customer are formulated.

Standard design solutions: schedule reduction and ease of implementation
Summary
The possibility and feasibility of using standard design solutions in the reconstruction of wastewater treatment facilities are considered. The conditions of the present day designing and requirements that projects should mandatorily meet are presented. The aspects that demand changes in the approach itself both to the initial stage of designing and to the technology of design engineering as a whole are considered. The adaptation of the ready-made standard solutions to the climate conditions, the layout of the treatment facilities, the applied equipment range is evaluated. The options of the layout of the treatment facilities are presented including the availability of several parallel process lines; the possibility of stage-by-stage commissioning is described. The broad range of edit decisions when executing big amounts of construction works is included. Ensuring the operational integrity, rigidity and long-term safety of constructions is emphasized. The attention is paid to the architectural appearance of the modern industrial buildings. A brief description of the wastewater sludge dewatering technology is presented. The relationship between the building footprint, amount of construction work and equipment of a big unit capacity is given. By the example of the building of mechanical sludge dewatering shop the technical and economic efficiency of using standard design solutions is calculated.
