Development of Contact Clarification Technology for Low Turbid Water Treatment

Summary

The enhancement of a single-stage flow chart of treatment of low turbid water of the Saratov Reservoir (the Volga) in contact clarifiers at the treatment facilities of the city of Samara is considered. The experience of the operation of contact clarifiers in Samara under conditions of low turbid colour water treatment shows the high efficiency of water clarification and decolouration at simultaneous reduction of the cost of construction and operation of treatment facilities in comparison with the two-stage water treatment. The process of contact coagulation progresses faster than the usual coagulation in the free volume. A doze of coagulant at water clarification in contact clarifiers is smaller than in the course of two-stage treatment. The temperature of the water has almost no influence on the process of contact coagulation.

Modernization of Chemical Workshop of the Pumping-Filter Station of Samara Using the Powdered Carbon Sorbent

Summary

Modernization of the chemical workshop carried out at one of unit of the pumping-filter station of Samara with 360 thousand m3/day output has made it possible to improve the reliability of water treatment. The flow chart includes the primary chlorination, dosing of powdery activated carbon into influent water, coagulant addition before the mixer, flocculant addition at the passage of water from the mixer, clarification in horizontal settling tanks, filtration in rapid filters, secondary chlorination. The use of powdered activated carbon in the water treatment scheme ensures the quality of potable water corresponding to specified requirements.

Economic Efficiency of the Use of Coagulant at the Pumping-Filter Station of the City of Samara

Summary

Results of the research in using the coagulant of aluminium polyoxychloride at the pumping-filter station № 1 of the city of Samara are presented. The technical and economic performance of the pumping-filter station № 1 are enhanced, working conditions are improved, amortization, energetic and other costs are reduced due to of simplification of chemical dosing workshop, release of equipment and mechanisms. In 2010 the general costs for chemicals were cut down by 16%. The combined scheme of water treatment with the use of aluminum sulfate and aluminum polyoxychloride enhances the stability of the treatment process of low-turbid water of the Saratov Reservoir.

Research in Relift Pumping Stations

Summary

Results of the research in operation of relift pumping stations of Samara (water consumption, pressure in the suction and pressure pipelines) are presented. The aligned graphs of distribution of specific water consumption, an average value of factual specific water consumption and coefficients of irregularity, diagrams of annual and daily changes of water consumption are given. The comparison of results obtained with the standards in force is made. Values of specific consumption of 5 and 95% provision and also a probability of ingress of factual water consumption into the interval defined by the standard specifications are determined. The efficiency of the use of frequency regulation at intra-block pumping stations is substantiated.

Treatment of Artesian Water for Domestic Water Supply

Summary

An example of solving the task of improvement of artesian water quality up to normative values with the help of baromembrane technologies is given. A flow chart of water treatment for household needs of a settlement optimal from the ecological and economical points of view is described. The comparative results of the technological calculation of various schemes of water demineralization and softening including the processes of ion exchange, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis are presented.

Research in Possibility of Low Turbid Water Treatment under the PFS-1 of Samara Conditions

Summary

The flow chart of water treatment with an aluminium oxychloride coagulant in combination with flocculant Magnafloc LT20 in winter and during the spring flood has been proposed and tested under production conditions. It is established that the quality of water taking into account permanganate oxidation, residual aluminium, colour and turbidity has improved. It is proved that the efficiency of disinfection in the course of coagulation treatment with aluminium oxychloride is 1,5–2 times higher than with aluminium sulphate. It makes it possible to reduce the dose of chlorine at the primary disinfection and to reduce accordingly the possibility of formation of organochlorine compounds. Due to reduction of an aluminium polyoxychloride dose the sliming at treatment facilities is reduced up to 30% that makes it possible to reduce the discharge of suspended matters and residual aluminium from the station. Manufacturing expenses and water losses go down, conditions of facilities disinfection improve, which guarantees the epidemic safety of water.

Conception of Reconstruction of City Sewerage Treatment Facilities of Samara

Summary

The results of years of research aimed at improving the quality of wastewater treatment at the city sewerage treatment facilities of Samara are presented. The technology of the Capetown University is the most acceptable for the further reconstruction of facilities due to the low concentration of organic substances in clarified wastewater and a high ratio of biogenic elements concentration to biochemical consumption of oxygen. At present the studies of biomembrane treatment with the use of hollow fibre membranes and equipment of General Electric Co. are planned. For that it is necessary to build a screens building and to place also the unit of UV-disinfection of treated wastewater. The cost of reconstruction of the treatment facilities will be 11,8 milliards of roubles.

Designing and Construction of UV-Disinfection Stations at Objects of ME Samaravodokanal

Summary

Advantages of the UV-disinfection technology of natural and waste water in comparison with chlorination and ozonation are considered. According to the results of technological research and experimental-industrial tests it is established that the application of UV-irradiation at the stage of primary disinfection will make it possible to create conditions for the adjustment of the flow chart of chlorination with the decrease of the doses of chlorine used. Specialists of ME Samaravodokanal in cooperation with employees of the Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal Chair of the Samara State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and Scientific-Production Company EKOS Ltd. have developed the project documentation for construction of UV-disinfection stations at two largest objects of water supply and wastewater disposal of Samara, pumping-filter stations.
