Moscow water supply management: the experience of introducing hydraulic simulation of the water distribution network
Summary
Practical experience of designing, introducing and applying hydraulic simulation of the Moscow water distribution network is presented. In order to optimize the supply and distribution modes the tasks were identified that could be solved with the use of hydraulic calculation software; furthermore the perspectives of improving the water supply system were specified. Hence, the experts of Mosvodokanal OJSC have an advanced tool of analyzing the mode of the municipal water distribution operation.

Water leaks in the distribution network
Summary
Ensuring the integrity of a water distribution network with hundreds kilometers of pressure pipelines laid underground sometimes in corrosive soil and ground water is practically impossible. Leaks in the water distribution network are a permanent element of the network operation and maintenance. Drinking water losses during transportation pose a tangible economic damage to water providers, contribute to underground water level increase, and sometimes produce an adverse environmental effect. The operation personnel carry out continuous work on eliminating water leaks. Water leak control in the distribution network is an essential part of operation and maintenance. The information on water leaks amount and water losses in certain countries of the world is presented. Detailed description of the experience in preventing leaks in the Tokyo water distribution network with the lowest in the world water leak level is presented.

Taking into account the actual conditions of water consumption in hydraulic designing water distribution networks
Summary
Pipeline hydraulic estimation is a basis of the process and technical-and economic, optimization, in particular, design of water supply systems. Improving hydraulic design of the water distribution networks with due account for the actual water consumption is a topical task; whereas estimation of the water flow rate dependence from free head values is an important and essential basis for calculations. The method of hydraulic design of water distribution networks with account of water flow rate dependence from free head values in the zones of both deficient and excessive head was developed and presented. To account for water losses the correlation factors of total water losses and total consumption, between water loss values in residential buildings and between total water loss values were introduced. The exponents reflecting water flow rate variation at nodal points were introduced. GRS NEW software for the hydraulic estimation of the joint operation of the entire system of water supply and distribution was improved. The software takes into account water flow rate increase at every nodal point depending on the available water head and allows identifying the problem points.

Economic methods of network renovation under the conditions of a megacity
Summary
Searching for the methods of rehabilitation of utility networks has become a top priority task for «Vodokanal» MUE in the process of planning the operational program of replacing the old pipelines and carrying out repair works. After the comprehensive analysis of the cost of replacing water pipelines and sewers in the cluttered urban environments it was decided to introduce innovations that could provide for the network renovation with minimum expenses for improvements. The arguments are put forward in favor of the use of trenchless technologies of water and sewage pipelines rehabilitation in the city of Ekaterinburg. During the tests of the technologies their advantages and disadvantages were revealed. The conditions of the economic viability of using trenchless technologies are recommended.

Experimental construction of the water distribution pipelines with burst-lining technology
Summary
Laying ductile iron pipes by burst-lining technology is one of the perspective trenchless methods of water distribution network renovation. The positive results of the experimental works carried out in Zelenogradvodokanal Production Division on testing this technology with the purpose of identifying the actual type and level of possible damages of the outer surface of cast iron pipes are presented. The method of sliplining with old pipe bursting proved to be efficient, reliable and perspective for using in the existing urban developments.
