M-Defanox – efficient technology of biological phosphorus removal from wastewater

Summary

Energy efficient technology of removing nutrients from wastewater that requires minimum amount of organics has been developed in Mosvodokanal MPUE. M-Defanox technology is based on the oxidation of maximum available organic matter in the process of denitrification with the use of dephosphating-denitrifying bacteria. In the process of experimental tests in the laboratory-scale reactor the efficiency of nitrogen removal was 99%, phosphorus removal – 86%, COD – 80%, BOD – 95%. The technology can sustain acute fluctuations of incoming pollutants. The results of pilot tests showed 99% efficiency of ammonia nitrogen removal and 85% efficiency of phosphate-phosphorus removal. The use of M-Defanox technology provided for 50% reduction of disposed excess activated sludge.

Minimizing the recovery of phosphorus-containing pollutants in the process of wastewater sludge treatment

Summary

To improve the Baltic Sea basin the problem of reducing the concentration of nutrients, phosphorus in particular, in the effluents must be solved. No less important is to prevent bound phosphorus recovery in the subsequent process of activated sludge dewatering. It is shown that minimizing phosphorus recovery during sludge dewatering and preventing secondary pollution of effluents can be ensured by separate thickening of activated sludge and raw sludge; as well as by minimizing the retention time of activated sludge and raw sludge mixture before mechanical dewatering.

Enhancement of Efficiency of Biological Removal of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Compounds at Sewerage Treatment Facilities

Summary

The technology of wastewater treatment for biogenic elements using the processes of nitri-denitrification and dephosphatization on the basis of up-to-date sewerage treatment facilities is described. The principle of computer simulation with the help of the program complex BioWin is the basis of technical decisions. The aim of this calculation is to achieve reliable results which can be used in practice. The main advantages of introduction of high effective, ecologically safe technologies of waste water treatment using the equipment manufactured by the scientific and production firm Ekoton are described. Stages of the main works made by the engineering department of the company which can become a base for the beginning of design preliminary studies and receiving of necessary investments are considered.

Commissioning the upgraded biological treatment plant at the Podolsk wastewater treatment facilities

Summary

The results of commissioning the upgraded biological treatment plant at the Podolsk wastewater treatment facilities are presented. The start up of the basic equipment, mixers and recycle pumps installed in anaerobic and anoxic zones; the secondary settler equipment; the new Korean NEUROS NХ-300 air blowers was carried out. The tertiary treatment unit washing regime during commissioning was defined. Commissioning of the UV-disinfection plant was carried out. The operational parameters of the treatment facilities were monitored by the automatic analyzers and sensors data; the laboratory control was carried out as well. Exceeding the incoming wastewater flow compared to the design value was noted; exceeding suspended solids and phosphate concentrations in the incoming wastewater was registered. However, despite the excess of the incoming wastewater flow and increased concentration of pollutants, the treatment facilities ensure advanced elimination of organic matter and nutrients.

Designing nitrification-denitrification retrofit at the biological treatment facilities

Summary

The results of studies carried out at the Khabarovsk wastewater treatment facilities are presented. The developed process flow sheet of wastewater biological treatment included nitrification-denitrification processes to eliminate nitrogen compounds according to the set standards. The process flow sheet provided for retrofitting dephosphatation zone to ensure maximum level of phosphorus removal at the biological treatment stage in order to reduce chemical consumption at the subsequent treatment stages. The process design of the biological treatment facilities was carried out.
