Analysis and criteria of using degassing methods in wastewater disposal systems (a review)
Summary
An analysis of international and Russian scientific studies related to preventing anaerobic conditions in sewer networks by taking operational and construction measures was conducted. A list of alternative methods for the effective suppression and elimination of malodors from foul-smelling volatile pollutants (hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, phenol, formaldehyde, etc.) emitted from point sources such as wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, ventilation hoods of canals and sewers is presented. The aspects of effective blocking of gas formation processes and reduction of gas spreading in the gas sphere by various methods, including physical-chemical, construction, etc., are considered in order to prevent aggressive gases from escaping to the daylight surface.

Effect of anode coating material on the electrolytic oxidation of hydrogen sulfide in gas cleaning systems
Summary
Possible removal of malodorous substances from ventilation systems at the wastewater disposal facilities by adsorption is shown, where water containing an oxidizer – sodium hypochlorite – is used as an absorbent. For further development of this method, the results of experimental studies of the effect of the anodic coating composition on the specific energy consumption for the production of electrolytic sodium hypochlorite are presented. The results of experimental studies of the effect of the anode coating composition during the oxidizer reduction in the process of removing hydrogen sulfide from gas-air emissions in a counter-current absorber with circulation of the absorption solution showed that the nature of the anode coating significantly affected the concentration of sodium hypochlorite generated during the electrolysis of the chloride-containing solution, and also on the energy characteristics of gas cleaning.

Clarification of recycled water of gas cleaning of a blast furnace using a water-dispersible flocculant
Summary
The results of laboratory testing of choosing the optimal flocculant for clarification of recycled water of blast furnace gas cleaning are presented. Laboratory testing was carried out according to the standard method of sedimentation (clarification) in glasses. It has been shown that the use of ATE 12520 liquid water-dispersible flocculant provides for the successful removal of suspended solids and turbidity from gas cleaning recycled water. The proposed chemical treatment program was recommended for commercial testing of the clarification system of gas cleaning recycled water of a blast furnace at one of the ironworks in Russia. The ATE 12520 flocculant dosage range recommended for testing (as commercial chemical) in terms of wastewater supplied to the circular sedimentation tank is 0.3–0.5 g/m3.

Removing malodorous substances from gas-air mixtures in wastewater disposal systems
Summary
A scientific justification is given for the use of the method of hydrogen sulfide absorption by aqueous media containing an oxidizer – hypochlorite ion, obtained electrochemically in a stream of reusable absorption solution, in a countercurrent absorber for gas-air mixture purification in wastewater disposal systems. The results of theoretical and experimental studies of the influence of operational factors on the efficiency of removing hydrogen sulfide from gas-air mixtures using the proposed method are presented. Recommendations for using the method are given. A process flow scheme for gas-air mixture purification in wastewater disposal systems using the method of hydrogen sulfide absorption by aqueous media containing an oxidizer – hypochlorite-ion, as well as the process parameters for its application, are presented. The results of estimating the economic efficiency of the developed technology are provided.
