Analysis of technical options for the reconstruction of the recycling water system of the electric steelmaking shop of a metallurgical plant

Summary

Process options for the scheduled reconstruction of off-line treatment facilities for the recycling water system of the electric steelmaking shop of a metallurgical plant were analyzed. The reconstruction is being carried out in conjunction with and parallel to the upgrade of the shop without interrupting the operation. The objective of the reconstruction is to improve the quality of the effluent to meet the current technical requirements; increase the flow rate from 1,500 to 2,000 m3/h; and provide for an efficient dewatering and disposal of the sludge generated during the water treatment process. A complicating factor is the lack of available space at the water treatment site surrounded by the existing facilities. Possible options and approaches to upgrading an existing facility based on the advanced Russian and international technologies are analyzed. It is shown that the ECO-PROJECT Group technology based on enhanced single-stage chemical treatment of recycled water in EP OF settling-flocculating tanks and gravity dewatering of sludge in OKUD units, offers a significant advantage in achieving these goals with account of the territorial constraints, operational, time, and economic factors. The presented approaches to solving these problems can find practical and systematic application while looking for a feasible option for reconstructing industrial water supply systems at various industrial enterprises.
