On the Substantiation of Natural Water Disinfection Methods

Summary

Substantiation of the natural water disinfection method is necessary for assessment of great number of factors (qualitative composition of water, disinfectants properties and characteristics of technical disinfection means et al. and execution of preliminary technological tests for selection of a disinfectant meeting the following requirements: durable antimicrobial action, safety for human beings and animals, absence of generation of accompanying ballast salts, transformable organic substances, treehalogenmethane, economic advantage. Results of the comparative studies of efficiency of different disinfectants for reagent treatment of the Don and Tom rivers’ water at an experimental stands of 1–1,5 m3/hr capacity are presented.

Experience in retrofitting chlorammoniation technology
at the water treatment facilities in Severodvinsk

Summary

The results of retrofitting natural water chlorammoniation technology at the water treatment facilities in Severodvinsk are presented. The specific features of processing river water with a high concentration of organic substances are considered using the example of WTP-1 and WTP-2. It has been shown that using chlorammoniation technology at the water treatment facilities with different input points of ammonium sulfate makes provides for preparing drinking water that meets current standards for basic chemical and microbiological indicators.

The use of preammonization and primary chlorination in the process of the Moskva River water purification

Summary

The use of preammonization and primary chlorination for the purification of water from the Moskva River source is discussed. Two water purification process designs are suggested. The results of laboratory studies of temporal dynamics of chloroform formation and maximum efficiency of chloroform concentration reduction at various modes of preammonization and primary chlorination are presented. Comparative evaluation of chloroform formation intensity in the process of water purification with the use of preammonization and primary chlorination versus traditional water treatment process is given. A reliable operational benefit was obtained that provided for meeting the standard for permissible amount of chloroform in drinking water as well as the basic chemical and microbiologic parameters of the required water quality.
